He’s lost his memory, and Wren agrees to help him recover it in exchange for his help finding the Stone.ĭivided into the Overcity and Undercity Undercity is underground in caves. When Wren is in danger, he reveals his secret: he is actually a dragon with the power to assume human form. Though quiet and disoriented at first, he opens up to Wren. The story begins with Wren’s rescue of Candle, a mysterious 11-year-old boy. She believes if she finds the Stone, she’ll find her missing father as well. Now fourteen, Wren aspires to become a treasure-hunter herself. When Wren was young, her father disappeared while searching for the Stone. Wren’s father was a treasure-hunter determined to find the Wishing Stone, a legendary artifact said to have power to grant any wish. The story The Wishing Stone takes place in a fantasy world and follows a girl named Wren. I wrote up a quick introduction to my story as well as some notes on the city I’m developing. This greyscale image, though by no means a refined drawing, comes very close to the overall feeling I want this city to convey: cluttered, hidden but lively, home to misfits and outcasts and all manner of shady characters – but most of whom have good hearts.Īt this point, I thought it’d be a good idea to consolidate some of my notes into a form I could more easily share with others. I like the simplicity of the silhouettes and how the background conveys the clustered nature of the city in which my main character resides. I started painting to develop images which convey the feeling of the world I want to create. In the end, I decided to dive right in and start experimenting. After settling into my studio, I first turned to the question which daunts many an artist: where to begin? I had my story, but how to begin visualizing it?
